On Windows 10 computers, you might get a warning that you do not have permission to change the default application for a file type (for example changing the application for PDF documents from Microsoft Edge to Adobe Acrobat). 

It appears this error occurs when making the change a certain way.  Please follow the instructions below to avoid the warning.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Find a PDF document on your desktop or network drive
  2. Right-click on the file and select Open with... → Choose Another App
  3. If you see the appropriate app, then select it, otherwise click on More Apps at the bottom of the list.
  4. Once you find the appropriate app, select it and make sure you check off the box "Always use this app to open .XXX files"
  5. Click OK to save the change and open the file
